Tasa Graphic Arts, Inc. - Illustrated Dictionary of Earth Science CD-ROM Review

Tasa Graphic Arts, Inc., has released another cross-platform (Mac and 32-bit Windows OSs) educational CD title. The Illustrated Dictionary of Earth Science (IDES) ($29.95) is a multimedia tour-de-force that was produced in cooperation with the American Geological Institute.

IDES contains more than 8,700 geological terms and definitions with more than 2,000 terms illustrated with either photos, illustrations, or movies. Clicking on terms results in an immediate display of both definition and pictures/movies. There are hotlinks to other related terms within the definitions. As you start typing a term into an input window, the dictionary automatically scrolls to that part of the dictionary table to permit easy clicking on the term list. One can search for a term with up to three sets of words and simple menu choices select all terms with movies, illustrations, or all media. As with previous Tasa Graphic Arts releases, this CD is a slick, well-planned tool. It should prove useful for anyone with a computer and a need to explore geological vocabulary.
