Back to Hands-On Mineral Identification

Tasa Graphic Arts, Inc. has released Hands-On Mineral Identification, another in its long-running series of cross-platform educational CDs ($29.95 single user and $299.95 for a multi-user site license). It is rated for seventh grade through college and has aids that will be useful for a wide audience.

This multimedia guide is divided into two major portions: The first features ten structured sections on topics in basic mineralogy and the second is an incredibly useful, internally searchable database for identifying over 14,500 mineral names and synonyms.

Hands-On Mineral Identification provides detailed identification information on 500 of the most common mineral species, as well as background information, full-color animations, and photographs (in some cases multiple photographs) on physical characteristics of minerals.

The searchable database includes physical properties, 3-D crystal shapes that can be rotated, color photographs, crystal classes, worldwide localities, and mineral associations for each species.

This CD is another example of the company's ability to produce top-notch multimedia programs for the earth sciences. It is easy to use, provides cogent and clear demonstrations of basic mineralogical principles and is an incredible online resource for information on a vast number of minerals. Tasa Graphics has done it again.
